I took the much anticipated flight to Reno, Nevada to join their Sierra Nevada Job Corps Program. It was all so fast one hour I'm trying to find a seat on a stuffy plane ride the next I'm touching down in Reno getting on what the more seasoned students call "the prison bus."
We go through security and bag checks first and while we are waiting for our turn we sit in a classroom filling out paperwork and what not. They did give us the honor of feeding us an old school papersack sandwhich! It was complete with two pieces of bread, turkey, cheese, two mayo packets, two packets of mustard, and an apple. All the ingredients for a very uneventful sandwich, but hey it's free.
We then got our dorms and rooms. I didn't get the dorm I wanted with the "Jack & Jill bathrooms," but I did get the same dorm as Flor. Which meaons one day I'll be able to get her in my room too if mine ever leaves.
Speaking of my roommate I don't know her. She's on leave and technically "awhole" so I kind of don't have a mentor figure here. From what she left though I can tell she's a pretty cool person. The room was very spotless and smelled nice when I came in. You can tell she's been here for awhile because she has a mini fridge and Keurig. Also she's growing flowers in a little pot by the window so I've been nurturing that for her while she's away.
New people had to meet up for pizza as dinner today and we got our keys to our rooms. After we got our keys I met this girl and Flor, her, and I all went to the rec center to make pottery. Which was a temporary relief for my anxiety and homesickness probably not gonna last three weeks self.
At 9pm we do roll call to make sure everyone is back and I had to do inventory which meant counting everything I packed and giving it estimated value.
The night ended with me praying, crying, and on the phone with my dad. He said that I just have to say the word and he'll make the drive but I would feel so much shame if I just quit like that.
Thank God my roommate was not here or else she'd of witness my hysteria. Well day one over at least. Who knows how many more to go.
day one.
